Ten Differences between a Winner and a Loser1

Winner

Loser

Makes mistakes and says: 'I was wrong'

Says: 'It wasn't my fault'

Credits his good luck for winning even though it wasn't luck

Credits his bad luck for losing, though it wasn't luck

Works harder and has more time

Is always 'too busy', too busy staying at failure

Goes through a problem

Goes around a problem

Shows he's sorry by making up for it

Says he's sorry but he does the same thing next time

Knows what to fight for and what to compromise on

Compromises on what he should not and wastes time with trivial matters

Says: 'I'm good, but not so good as I ought to be'. Looks up to where he is going.

Says: 'I'm not as bad as a lot of people'. Looks down at those who've not yet achieved the position he has.

Respects those who are superior to him and tries to learn from them

Resents those who are superior to him and tries to find fault

Responsible for more than his job

Says: "I only work here"

Says: 'There ought to be a better way of doing this'

Says: 'Why change it? That's the way it's always been done'

Winner Defined

You are a winner if you keep achieving your stretch goals and are happy in your own skin.

A Win is a Win-Win

"The winners stun us not by their cleverness, but by the fact that every tiny aspect of the business is just a touch better than the norm." - Tim Peters

Things work out best for those who make the best of the way the things work out.

Seeing Life Differently

The secret of winning in life lies in seeing life differently - in its different shades and outcomes. "Life becomes a path that leads to achievements. Winners do not value life as much as what they can do with it. For them life is not a tedious journey from the womb to the tomb. It is a journey about crossing milestones and looking forward to new ones."4

  1. Do what you love to do. Find your true passion. Do what you love to do a make a difference! The only way to do great work is to love what you do... More

Focus is Everything

The Foundation of Leadership

By: Brian Tracy

When you take complete responsibility and accept ownership, without making excuses or blaming others, you experience a sense of control that leads to the personal power that is the foundation of charisma. When you look like a winner in every respect, when you have the kind of external image that others admire, you build your charisma. When you develop your character by setting high standards and then disciplining yourself to live consistent with the highest principles you know, you become the kind of person who is admired and respected everywhere. You become the kind of person who radiates charisma to others... More

 Case Study  Jack Welch

Jack Welch has been with the General Electric Company (GE) since 1960. Having taken GE with a market capitalization of about $12 billion, Jack Welch turned it into one of the largest and most admired companies in the world, with a market value of about $500 billion, when he stepped down as its CEO 20 years later, in 2000. Although Jack Welch is "the celebrated leader of a global manufacturer often noted for its technological prowess, he has utilized a very human process to drive change through GE's vast organization. Having respect for the individual as a pivotal force in organizational change, Welch created a model of exceptional performance every corporate leader can learn from.

Develop a Clear Vision

The one quality that all leaders have in common is that they have a clear and exciting vision for the future. This is something that only the leader can do. Only the leader can think about the future and plan for the future each day... More

The Low of Forced Efficiency

This law says that, "There is never enough time to do everything, but there is always enough time to do the most important thing."

The key question you should ask is "What is the most valuable use of my time, right now?" This is the question that dominates time management. This is the key to overcoming procrastination and becoming a highly productive person... More

Changing Yourself

The best place to start is to change yourself. If whatever you do doesn't work, you must be flexible - you must change your action plan if the current one does not produce the required results. If you want other people to change, you must be prepared to make the first step yourself. If you cannot change your environment, you should change your attitude.

Success is 99% Failure

To err is human. If there is no mistake, there is no initiative. Not to admit a mistake or a failure is a sign of weakness.

Remember always the NLP presupposition: "There is no failure, only feedback." Through mistakes to success - that's really what experience means. Mistakes can be your most effective teacher.

"Just like a great building stands on a strong foundation, so does success. And the foundation of success is attitude."

 Case in Point  eBay

eBay's now one of the most successful companies in the world. "The key decisions can all be characterized by focus, focus, focus," said Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay, an amazing growth machine, when asked what were the key decisions he had made that set up the company for this kind of hyperthyroidism.

Five Bargaining Tips

  1. Be persistent. Don't expect to "win" the first time. Your first job is just to start the other person thinking.
